It uses enough power to keep the water thawed down to about -20 degrees Fahrenheit in a sheltered area. The first one I had lasted more than 10 years before it quit working. When I went to get another I could not find a Blue Devil locally and had to resort to the internet to find one. It is so good, and lasts so long, that local merchants don't carry it because they don't keep having to replace them, i.e., once you buy one, you don't need another one.
